Mississauga, ON (September 13, 2022) – Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Ontario (ACEC-Ontario) held its first full day Forum with their annual general meeting (AGM) on September 13th and their first in-person AGM since the start of the pandemic. On the agenda for the AGM in 2022 was an election for five (5) positions on the 2022 Board of Directors.
The 2022-2023 Chair of the Board for ACEC-Ontario, Karen Freund, Vice President & Geographic Sales Manager – Canada, Jacobs was appointed at the 2021 AGM. “We officially welcome Karen Freund, a Vice-President at Jacobs, as the Chair of the ACEC-Ontario Board of Directors. We look forward to her leadership, along with her fellow Directors, as we launch an important year and review the strategic direction of the Association.” stated Bruce G. Matthews, Executive Director, ACEC-Ontario.
Karen Freund is a professional engineer, with 30 years of experience as a project and people manager in the engineering consulting industry. She is currently responsible for business development and strategic growth of Jacob’s Infrastructure and Buildings business in Canada. Over the course of her career, Karen has gained experience in a variety of regions, having been based in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe. Her areas of expertise include transportation, water and environmental engineering.
As an industry leader, Freund advocates for ACEC-Ontario’s Member Companies by utilizing her strong professional relationships across the consultant, public sector, and private sector industries. She has a proven record of promoting diversity and equality within our industry.

I am looking forward to stepping into the position of Chair of the ACEC-Ontario Board of Directors as we head into strategic planning this fall. Although I have “big shoes to fill” on the heels of Joe Sframeli (now Past-Chair), I’m committed to continue the good work and evolution of ACEC-Ontario’s mandate.” commented Freund. “The consulting engineering industry is maneuvering through a historic time of great demands and the challenges that comes with them.
